Peeking Too Early!- SPRINTER, Lauryn Williams
Lauryn Williams first came on the scene at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Here was this new athlete running amazing times throughout the 100 meter dash rounds that we had never seen before. Lauryn was a sprinter who had attended Miami University. She didn't finish all four years in college. Shortly after the 2004 Olympics, she turned professional. She made it to the finals in the 100 meter dash as a rookie and placed 2nd to Jamaican Veronica Campbell. Lauryn was 21 at the time with her first Olmpic medal.
After that race, Lauryn was the one to beat in the U.S. Lauryn and Campbell were rivalries. Evertime they ran against eachother, it was a fast and close race. But it seems that after the 2004 Olympics, Lauryn has not had that fire in her eyes since. I thought that she would be #1 in the world for the 100 meter dash, but instead she has been like #5,6,or 7. Her personal best is only 10.90 and that was in 2008. Every since 2004, I have been waitng to see some ourstanding times and some new meet records. Altough she is the tw0-time World Outdoor 4 by 100m relay gold medalist, I want to see some individual gold medals. She does an amazing job as first leg on the 4 by 100m relay.
She has not broken 10.9 seconds yet and that is what I am waiting on. Now when she runs her rounds at big meets, she is struggeling to make it to the next round. She has yet failed to win an individual gold. Did Lauryn peek too early in 2004 Olympics? In the 2008 Olympics, she barely made it to the finals. She placed a disappointing 5th place. Is there a such thing as PEEKING TOO EARLY?
